SCAM ALERT: Do Not Pay Callers Who Threaten to Arrest You Unless You Pay
Residents of the Middle District of Georgia continue to receive fraudulent phone calls claiming that the victim failed to appear for jury duty in federal court and/or has an arrest warrant or similar adverse situation. The scammer tells the victim that he or she can avoid arrest or other negative consequences by making a payment, which may include purchasing a pre-paid card—such as a Green Dot card or gift card—and then giving the card number to the scammer.

Excuses and Deferrals
Requests to be Excused or Deferred will not be considered over the telephone. Please mail, fax, or e-mail requests.
Term of Service
The service period runs from the summons date and continues for 2-3 weeks thereafter. The schedule will vary due to holidays and expected trial length. Prospective jurors generally receive a summons 30 days in advance so they may plan to be available at the time summoned.
Request for Excuse
If service on a jury at the time summoned would pose an undue hardship, you may request an excuse via mail at U.S. District Court, PO BOX 128, Macon, GA 31202 or by email at jury@gamd.uscourts.gov. The request should indicate whether service at a later date is possible. You should include your juror number and a telephone number. Sending a request does not automatically excuse you from jury duty. You are not considered excused until notified by the court.
Call 1-800-793-7903 for reporting instructions or to check the status of your excuse.
